Creating New Products in Cumulus Software

This video explains how to create a new product record in Cumulus Software.

Click on Product Management, then Products. Click on the New button. Select the brand, or click on the New button to create a new brand.

Enter an alphanumeric product or item number. This can be the product number assigned by the vendor.

Enter a description. You can use the Description To field to provide additional details about the item, but this field is not searchable.

Barcode Creation and Details

By default, when a new product is saved, a unique, system-generated barcode is assigned to every color, width, and size combination. Depending on your version of Cumulus, you may have the option to select Enter Alternate Barcode after saving.

If you select this option, the Barcode Details screen will appear when you save the product, allowing you to enter additional barcodes or UPCs. This is useful if you use a vendor's UPC or want to define your own meaningful barcode.

Enter the cost, price, MSRP, web price, margin percentage, and markup percentage for the product.

Determining Unique Product Attributes and Descriptions

Click on the Pick Classifications button. Select the class, then click on Pick. Select the stores where the product will be available.

On the OF Fields tab, you can find optional fields for tracking your merchandise. Click on the Matrix tab to add colors, sizes, and widths to the product. Click on the Find button. To select multiple colors or widths at once, hold down the Control key on your keyboard while making your selections.

For example, if you were adding a pair of shoes, you could select narrow and wide as options. In this example, petite and tall are used as options. If the size you want is not listed, enter it in the Size box.

Click to deselect any individual sizes you do not want.

Web and Ecommerce Products

Click on the eCommerce Options tab. You can choose from Never Sell on Web, Prepare for Web, and Use Vendor eCommerce Data.

If the item will be sold on the web, click on Set Web Product Details. You can also specify whether the product is shippable and configure its shipping surcharge, ship-exempt status, weight, length, width, and height.

Click on the Advanced POS tab. Here, you can choose to display the product in the POS Item menu and the Range Item menu. On-hand quantity is tracked by default. Deselect this option if you do not want to track on-hand quantity.

Select the appropriate box if you want the system to prompt for the quantity at the register.

Setting Product and Customer Restrictions

To set an age or time restriction, click on the appropriate dropdown menus and make your selections. You can also set the sales tax code here.

Click on the Back Office tab. You can exclude the item from the buying club by selecting the corresponding checkbox and entering a buying club multiplier. Select the appropriate checkbox if the item cannot be drop-shipped to a customer.

If the item is a firearm, complete the relevant section and specify the tag format.

Finishing the Product Creation

When you are finished, click on the Save button. You have successfully created a new product.
